ASUS has clarified which versions of GeForce RTX 30 series graphics cards are used in ROG and TUF laptops – frequencies and TGP are named

ASUS was the first among all laptop manufacturers to describe in detail the characteristics of the mobile GeForce RTX 30 series graphics cards used in its 2021 gaming laptops. This greatly simplifies the future choice of buyers, since, as mentioned earlier, Ampere mobile video cards are available in 28 different configurations.

ASUS announced not only the declared GPU frequencies of video cards in its updated ROG and TUF series gaming laptops but also clarified the level of additional GPU power consumption in those laptop models where support for NVIDIA Dynamic Boost 2.0 technology is declared, aimed at increasing graphics performance.

For example, the manufacturer confirmed that the ROG Zephyrus Duo 15 SE and ROG Strix (Scar) 17/15 models use graphics cards with a TGP level of 115 watts. Lighter and thinner solutions like the ROG Zephyrus G15 and TUF Dash F15 use GeForce RTX 30-series GPUs with up to 80W TGP. Somewhere in between are the TUF Gaming A17 / A17 models, equipped with video cards with a declared TGP level of 90 W. And the updated Zephyrus G14 models will be able to offer mobile GeForce RTX 3060 Max-Q with a TGP value of only 60 watts.

The new 13-inch ASUS ROG Flow X13, which we announced in January, is equipped with a GeForce GTX 1650 Max-Q graphics card with a power consumption of 35W in the base configuration. However, you can connect an external ROG XG Mobile unit with a GeForce RTX 3080 mobile graphics accelerator with a TGP level of up to 150W (or an RTX 3070 with a consumption of up to 125W). Other models of ASUS gaming laptops released in 2021 and the features of their graphics accelerators can be found in the table below:

It should be noted that other leading laptop manufacturers did not describe in detail which versions of the GeForce RTX 30 series mobile video cards are used in their laptops. For example, Gigabyte, Acer, Lenovo decided to ignore NVIDIA’s call to describe in more detail the characteristics of the declared graphics accelerators, thereby actually forcing potential buyers to contact the company’s support to find out all the details.

As indicated by the resource VideoCardz, MSI also announced which versions of video cards are announced in the composition of certain models of its gaming laptops. Representatives of the company voiced this information as part of an online broadcast, but it did not appear on the official website of the company. Thus, at the moment, in most cases, the only reliable way to find out the necessary information about the video card of a 2021 laptop before buying it is only reviews of one or another laptop. We hope that other manufacturers will nevertheless follow ASUS ‘example and begin to report the full technical characteristics of their new products.
