ASUS Zephyrus gaming laptops get Ryzen 5000H and GeForce RTX 3000

AMD will host an event early next year that is expected to unveil the Ryzen 5000 series of mobile processors, including the energy-efficient Ryzen 5000U models and the high-performance Ryzen 5000H (for gaming laptops). It seems that the manufacturers of the latter have already begun to prepare the upcoming novelties based on these chips. For example, several models of ASUS Zephyrus gaming laptops were found in the database of the South African retailer Pinnacle.

In particular, we are talking about powerful portable gaming systems based on the older Ryzen 9 5900HX and Ryzen 9 5900HS chips, belonging to the Cezanne family and built on the Zen 3 architecture. The seller does not indicate the difference between the two versions of processors, but it is very likely that it will be in the operating frequency range, as well as in the declared TDP level.

Another interesting feature of the upcoming ASUS Zephyrus gaming laptops is the use of mobile versions of the GeForce RTX 30 series graphics accelerators. For example, the flagship model Zephyrus Duo 15, based on the Ryzen 9 5900HX and equipped with two screens, will be able to offer the GeForce RTX 3080.

The choice will also be available in models with GeForce RTX 3070, RTX 3060 Max-Q, as well as versions with NVIDIA Quadro RTX 3000. However, in the latter case, the system will be able to offer the Ryzen 4000 series processor as a basis. By the way, this is not the first meeting with GeForce RTX 30-series mobile graphics. Yesterday, for example, it was reported about the upcoming notebooks Gigabyte Aorus and Aero using the same graphics accelerators.

Meanwhile, the Internet detective Tum_Apisak in the Geekbench database revealed the results of performance tests of the Ryzen 9 5900HS as part of one of the aforementioned ASUS portable gaming systems. The chip is said to offer 8 cores and 16 threads, operating in the 3.3 to 4.6 GHz frequency range. Thus, at the same base frequency, the Ryzen 9 5900HS is 200 MHz faster in Boost mode than the Ryzen 9 4900H of the current mobile Renoir family. The spec also states that the chip has 16 MB of L3 cache.

In terms of performance, the Ryzen 9 5900HS scores 1423 points in single-threaded and 6912 points in multi-threaded tasks, respectively. For comparison, the new AMD is faster than the Core i7-10750H by about 23% in single-thread and 24% in multi-thread.

If we compare the new product with the Ryzen 9 4900HS, then the new AMD chip in single-thread is 30% faster, but at the same time it is 3% slower in multi-threaded synthetic test tasks – it gains an average of 1092 and 7071 points, respectively.
