Yesterday, Canon not only revealed some details about the EOS R5 camera but also introduced two new products for professional use in the film and television industries. This is a modular camera EOS C300 Mark III, which uses a Super-35 CMOS DGO (Dual Gain Output) sensor with a resolution of 4K, and a CN10X25 IAS S servo lens covering a focal length range of 25–250 mm and suitable for shooting video in 4K and 8K. In addition, a firmware update was announced for Cinema EOS professional control displays and cameras.

Canon EOS C300 Mark III introduced

The EOS C300 Mark III is an evolution of the EOS C300 Mark II released in 2015. According to the manufacturer, it “is equipped with everything necessary for high-quality shooting in a variety of scenarios of video production.” The main features of the EOS C300 Mark III include the above-mentioned image sensor, the dynamic range of which is declared equal to 16 EV, and support for 4K video recording with a frame frequency of up to 120 fps. The camera can record 4K Cinema RAW Light video with 10-bit or 12-bit representation, 2K RAW with Super-16 crop factor, with 10-bit or 12-bit representation, supports XF-AVC (MXF), 4: 2: 2 10 bit ALL -I or Long GOP, as well as recording up to 120P in 4K RAW or XF-AVC format; up to 180P – with crop factor Super-16 in 2K / FHD format. The modular design allows the installation of EU-V1 and EU-V2 expansion units that add specific connectors and expand shooting options in different styles, and an electronic viewfinder.

The CN10X25 IAS S also has an interchangeable lens mount (EF / PL). It is compatible with full-frame sensors and Super 35 format sensors. The integrated 1.5x extender allows you to increase the maximum focal length to 375 mm. The servo is removable. 11-blade aperture allows you to get soft blurring outside the field of sharpness.

As for the firmware update for the Cinema EOS family of cameras, according to the manufacturer’s estimates, there are 17 new and improved features, including compatibility with the CN10X25 IAS S lens. The EOS C500 Mark II camera received support for the XF-AVC Long GOP and XF AVC Proxy recording formats, and the EOS C200 camera – the ability to simultaneously output to HDMI and SDI.

A software update for seven models of professional reference 4K displays – DP V3120, DP V2421, DP V2420, DP V2411, DP V2410, DP V1711, and DP V1710 -improves their performance. In particular, it increases brightness and contrast, adds a dimming function (in DP V2411, DP V1711, and DP V1710), support for .cube LUT file format, two types of LUT presets for converting video from RED Digital Cinema cameras to HDR (PQ) / SDR and other features.

The EOS C300 Mark III will go on sale in June for $ 11,000, and the CN10X25 IAS S in July.
