Deliveries of GeForce RTX 30 series video cards with hardware mining limiter will begin in mid-May

Deliveries of GeForce RTX 30 series video cards with hardware mining limiter will begin in mid-May

The VideoCardz portal, citing sources in the ranks of NVIDIA partners, shared the latest information about the upcoming GAxx2 GPUs, which will be used in the updated GeForce RTX 30 series video cards. These GPUs will contain a hardware mining limiter. They will also most likely offer RezisableBAR support out of the box. Thus, owners of versions of video cards based on new chips do not need to update bios.

The start of deliveries of video cards based on GAxx2 chips is expected in mid-May. Thus, the first customers will be able to receive new versions of the video cards by June. Sources of VideoCardz are sure that NVIDIA will not somehow specifically single out versions of video cards with a built-in cryptocurrency mining limiter against the background of already sold versions that do not have it. All graphics accelerators will be presented under the same names. Only the marking of the GPUs themselves will differ. Programs like GPU-Z will probably be able to distinguish between different versions of video cards, too. Still, models based on GAxx2 chips use a different PCI Device ID and require a new driver.

The gaming performance of video cards with a built-in crypto-mining limiter will be the same as that of models without it. NVIDIA’s previous attempt to integrate a software limiter for mining into the GeForce RTX 3060 model failed, as the manufacturer “accidentally” published a special version of the graphics driver that allows you to bypass it. The company is also said to be updating the GeForce RTX 3060 with a GPU version with a built-in hardware mining limiter.

According to resource sources, the GeForce RTX 3090 model will be the only Ampere series graphics card that will not receive a mining limiter. This is explained by the fact that the card is not profitable in extracting cryptocurrencies due to its very high cost. However, this model will also receive a new chip, GA102-302, which will likely offer built-in support for RezisableBAR technology.
