DJI has hinted that it will introduce two stabilizers for cameras – Ronin S2 and S2 Lite?

DJI recently hinted at launching a new professional camera gimbal, the Ronin S2, on September 9. Now, the Chinese company has shared another publication with images indicating the preparation of two suspensions at once. DJI will likely release alongside the S2 either a simplified version of the S2 Lite or the Ronin SC2.

In addition to the two images, the official DJI tweet has been published: “Why stop at one?”. As you can see from the image, the suspensions (or rather their parts) differ only in the red stripe and carbon fiber trim. The second device, apparently, is a simplified version of the previously seen Ronin S2. This is hardly the heir to the Ronin SC since the latter was released in 2019.

The tweet also includes a new launch date of October 2020 instead of 9 September. The event will be digital again due to quarantine measures due to COVID-19: DJI will simply display products at the appointed time on its website. Apart from two suspensions, it is unlikely that anything else will be announced.

The motors of both suspensions look identical – obviously, the frame in the simplified version will be made from cheaper materials, which will make the stabilizer more affordable. There may be other simplifications to further separate the two devices.

The Ronin S2 is expected to combine the small format of the original 2018 Ronin S with the construction of the Ronin 2. Hopefully, this means improved camera support in the new gimbal. In the images leaked on the Web, the device looks modular and includes a new rear grip. Battery life and gimbal payload are likely to increase.
