So far, there is no information on the domains, but the expert fears that some of them will be used by cybercriminals. Tatiana Sidorkina, the content analyst at Kaspersky Lab, agreed with this. She also stressed that some of the pages serve as a reserve in case of blocking.

Infosecurity a Softline Company representatives noted that such sites were created by scammers before. According to their data, 445 such domains were registered in July-August. In addition, experts counted about a dozen work resources that offer their visitors to pre-order the vaccine at a discount. Some of them are aimed at the English-speaking audience: they offer to buy a batch of vaccines from 10 thousand to a million units and make an advance payment of only 25%.

In turn, Check Point experts argue that the number of attacks associated with coronavirus infection has decreased. In June, there were about 130 million of them a week, while in July – 61 million a week.

Mikhail Kondrashin, CTO of Trend Micro, explained that the popularity of phishing resources is due to the wide availability of tools. And the hype surrounding COVID-19 has become a convenient excuse to attract users.

According to Johns Hopkins University, as of August 21, more than 22.6 million people worldwide have contracted COVID-19. Of these, 14.5 million recovered and more than 793 thousand died.
