The source says that the first version of the Facebook smartwatch will run the Android software platform. However, in future iterations, the company plans to use its own operating system, which has already begun. It is also known that future Facebook smartwatches will be able to work in networks of cellular operators without the need to synchronize with a smartphone. It is assumed that the first version of the device will be presented to the general public in 2022.

Facebook’s plans to expand its hardware ecosystem are no secret. Earlier it was reported that more than 6,000 employees of the company are working on various projects in the field of augmented and virtual reality and on experimental initiatives within the Facebook Reality Labs division. Facebook is also known to be working on smart glasses with the Ray-Ban brand for a launch later this year.
