Facebook will create a version of Instagram for children under 13
According to online sources, Facebook is working on a version of the social network Instagram for children under the age of 13. The current social network policy prohibits children under 13 years of age from using the service.
This became known from the message of the vice president of Instagram for products Vishal Shah (Vishal Shah), which was sent to employees of the company. It said that working with young people is one of the top priorities for the social network, as well as creating a version of Instagram that could be safely used by children under the age of 13.
According to reports, the development of the new product will be directly overseen by Instagram CEO Adam Mosseri and VP Pavni Diwanji, who joined the company in December last year and previously worked at Google, where she oversaw children-focused audience products, including YouTube Kids.
It is obvious that by creating a new service for children, the company Facebook, which is the owner of Instagram, intends to expand the user audience of its products. Instagram views users under the age of 13 as a viable growth segment, especially given the high popularity of the service among teenagers.
Commenting on this issue, Adam Mosseri said that “ more and more children ” want to use apps like Instagram. However, it is difficult to verify the age of such users, as identity documents are usually obtained in middle age or adolescence. “ We have a lot to do here, but part of the solution is to create a youth or kids version of Instagram where parents have control over the account. This is one of the things we are learning , ”said Adam Mosseri.
