Accelerating digital transformation will outweigh the negative impact of the COVID-19 pandemic

Gartner has published a forecast of global information technology (IT) spending for the current year. According to analysts, these costs will amount to $ 3.9 billion, which is 6.2% more than last year. For comparison: last year, IT spending decreased by 3.2% due to the negative impact of the COVID-19 pandemic on the global economy. The positive impact of accelerating digital transformation is expected to outweigh the pandemic’s negative impact this year.

Gartner predicts global IT spending to grow by 6.2% this year.

Telecommunications services will remain the largest expense item. Having decreased by 1.7% last year, they will grow by 4.5% this year to reach $ 1.410 trillion. IT services, in second place, will show an increase of 6.0% to $ 1.072 trillion.

Sales of devices hit hardest by the pandemic (last year, this spending on this item fell by 8.2%), will grow by 8.0% to reach $ 705.4 billion. Enterprise software sales will show the highest growth – 8.8%. In absolute terms, $ 505.7 billion will be spent on this item. Finally, sales of data center systems will grow 6.2% to $ 228.4 billion.
