Google Chrome for iOS will soon be able to protect incognito tabs with Face ID
Google is testing new privacy features in its Chrome browser for iOS. Shortly, the application will be able to protect anonymous tabs using Face ID. Apple uses this system to unlock iPhones and iPods, but many third-party apps use this feature as well. Now Google Chrome will join them.
The update notes for the latest beta version of Chrome 89 for iOS mention that the content of anonymous tabs will be blurred once the browser is launched until the user verifies their identity. This feature can be activated in Chrome’s privacy settings section; however, it appears to be in an early stage of testing since it is not yet available to all beta testers.
The stable version of Chrome 89 is expected to debut in early March, but it’s not clear if Face ID will be ready by this time. It is worth noting that on older devices, users will be able to protect anonymous tabs with Touch ID. The new feature is similar to the privacy mode in Samsung’s proprietary mobile browser, allowing users to block access to invoices, protecting them with a facial recognition system or a fingerprint sensor.
