When uploading photos and videos, the storage norms were determined incorrectly

Google recently decided to stop providing unlimited free storage for Google Photos users. Now it became known about an unpleasant failure of the service, which led to “inaccurate” calculations of volumes and limits in users’ cloud storage when uploading photos and videos.

Such inaccurate calculations could lead to the fact that the user purchased a paid Google One subscription or switched to a more expensive plan because he received an erroneous notification that the storage limit was exceeded.

It is noted that the bug was present in Google Photos throughout 2020, starting in January, but now it has already been fixed.

According to the developers themselves, the failure affected a “limited” number of users. Google also assured that all downloads have been saved, and the failure is only due to the incorrect calculation of the norms that are allocated for Gmail, Google Drive, and Google Photos.

For iPhone and iPad users who have purchased or upgraded to the higher-priced Google One plan, the company has requested a refund in the App Store as part of a Google One subscription between January 8 and October 20.

Reporters were able to get confirmation from Google that the crash did not affect Android users.
