Google has promised to release new versions of Chrome for Windows 7 at least until 2022

In January of this year, Google announced that the Chrome browser will lose Windows 7 compatibility in 2021, that is, new versions of the browser will no longer be compatible with this OS. In connection with the coronavirus pandemic, which has affected many processes this year, the search giant has extended support for the outdated operating system with its branded web browser until 2022.

Talking to corporate customers, Google found that organizations’ plans to migrate from Windows 7 to newer versions of the operating system faded into the background. This is due to the fact that the coronavirus pandemic has forced companies to focus on solving other problems. Earlier this year, Google said it would completely end support for Windows 7 in Chrome in July 2021. The search giant has now pushed back the event by six months. According to the latest data, Windows 7 will be supported by Chrome until at least January 15, 2022.

A study commissioned by Google found that 21 percent of companies are still in the process of switching to Windows 10. About 1 percent of organizations have not even started the process yet. The search giant said it will continue to assess the current conditions and will announce any future changes to its plans for supporting Windows 7. But at least until early 2022, all new versions of Chrome will be compatible with Windows 7.
