Google has resumed updating its iPhone and iPad apps with the release of a new version of YouTube

The vast majority of Google-branded iOS apps had not been updated since December last year. It looks like the situation will soon change as the developers released a new version of the YouTube app for iPhone and iPad today.

The previous version of YouTube 15.49.4 for iOS appeared on December 7 last year. Now the YouTube 15.49.6 app has been officially released. Apparently, the update does not significantly change since its description only talks about bug fixes and performance improvements.

The reason why Google hasn’t been updating iOS versions of its branded apps for a long time remains unknown. It was speculated that this could be due to new Apple requirements for applications published in the App Store. According to them, developers must add so-called privacy labels to published applications, revealing more information about how user data is collected and used by a particular product. However, in YouTube’s case, the privacy shortcuts were added long before today’s update, so this is unlikely to be the reason for the delay.

Earlier, Google also officially announced its intention to add privacy shortcuts to all of its apps published on the App Store. “ As Google iOS apps receive feature updates or bug fixes, you will see changes to our app pages, including new privacy information. These labels represent the maximum categories of data that can be collected, that is, if you use all the available functions and services in the application, ”reads the Google post.
