Google is rolling out a new inactive account policy

We are talking about accounts that have not been used for more than two years.

Google has taken the inactive account issue further by notifying people that any such accounts may be removed starting in December of this year.

It was first warned about this in early August , but in an email sent to users of Gmail and other Google services over the weekend, the company said that “its new inactive account policy has begun to roll out.” This change means that any Google account that hasn’t been used in two years can be deleted as of December 1, 2023.

To explain its policy changes, Google cited security concerns as a major factor. The company said it is trying to protect customer information from spam, phishing and account hijacking. In addition, Google said it offers tools to help you manage your account and back up your data. You can upload and export account data with  Google Takeout  and control the future of data for an inactive account with the  Inactive Account Manager  .

Google is rolling out a new inactive account policy

We have extended the account inactivity period to two years for all of our products and services. This change takes effect today and applies to all inactive Google Accounts unless they’ve been registered or used for two years. An inactive account and all content in it will be deleted from December 1, 2023.

If Google considers the user’s account to be inactive, several emails will be sent to the user notifying them that the account is about to be deleted. According to reports, Google will start sending notifications to users eight months before the account is actually deleted.

Once an account is deleted, the associated email address can no longer be used to create a new account. To keep your Google account, all you have to do is sign in at least once every two years.
