The number will be checked against the databases of telephone numbers. If matches are found, Google Phone will display a message on the smartphone screen stating that the caller has been confirmed. In addition, the message will tell you which company owns the number, and for what purpose it can call you. This can be useful because users often do not want to answer advertising calls, but clearly do not want to miss some important call, for example, from a bank with a message about suspicious charges from the user’s credit card.

“Confirmed Calls” is reminiscent of the “Confirmed SMS” feature that Google launched last year to combat spam. With its help, the user will see who and why is calling him from an unknown number, making it easier to decide whether to answer the call or not. The Verified Calls feature will soon be available to Google Phone users in the US, Mexico, Brazil, Spain, and India.
