Google Releases Chrome 89 Browser With Tabbed Search, Updated User Profiles And Reading Lists

Google today began rolling out the Chrome 89 browser for Android, macOS, Windows, and Linux. The new version of the browser has received many improvements that relate to both the functionality and appearance of the interface. Chrome 89 users now have access to features like Reading List, Tabbed Search, and more.

Among the innovations, it is worth noting the change in the interface for working with user accounts. The updated design is available both when working with a drop-down menu that appears when you click on a user’s avatar and setting up the browser for the first time or adding a new user. It’s worth noting that this change is only available to those using Chrome on their computer.

Also, Chrome 89 introduces a Reading List, which can be accessed by clicking on the star-shaped icon in the address bar. The drop-down menu now offers to create a bookmark and add the open site to the reading list. It is divided into two sections: “Read” and “Unread.” The functionality of the drop-down list allows you to remove pages from it that you no longer need to store and mark the list items as read.

It is also worth noting that now Chrome users have access to a tabbed search function, which can be invoked using the new icon located in the browser window’s upper right corner. As you enter your search keyword, a drop-down list of up to five items will display the most relevant results.

Also, Chrome 89 differs from previous versions by less intrusive requests to show notifications from sites. It should also be noted that there are new APIs that allow the browser to interact directly with hardware, such as 3D printers and more. Chrome for Android introduces the Web NFC feature, which allows sites to read and write NFC tags. It’s also worth noting that Chrome 89 for Windows has dropped support for processors that are not compatible with the SSE3 instruction set. When trying to install the browser on machines with such chips, users will see an error message.
