GTA V sales drop after announcement of next-gen console version

Take-Two Interactive CEO Strauss Zelnick announced in a financial statement that Grand Theft Auto V had shipped 135 million copies as of September 30 this year. However, sales declined ahead of the release of the PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X, and Xbox Series S.

In the previous quarter, Zelnik told investors that “nearly 135 million copies” of Grand Theft Auto V had been shipped at the end of June. In recent years, Take-Two Interactive has typically shipped 5 to 10 million copies of the game every quarter. So Grand Theft Auto V sales dropped significantly.

Grand Theft Auto V will hit PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X and S in the second half of 2021. Perhaps this is the reason for the decline in sales: players are waiting for a new version, which will have improved graphics and performance.

In addition, Take-Two Interactive said that Red Dead Redemption 2  had more than 34 million shipments as of September 2020, up 2 million from the previous quarter.

Recall that Grand Theft Auto V was released on PC, Xbox 360, PlayStation 3, Xbox One and PlayStation 4, and Red Dead Redemption 2 – on PC, Xbox One, and PlayStation 4.
