Hackers Who Hacked Celebrity Twitter Accounts Earn $ 121,000
Yesterday, the social network Twitter was subjected to a large-scale hacker attack aimed at cryptocurrency fraud. As a result, the accounts of large companies, politicians, businessmen, and other celebrities were hacked, on whose behalf the scammers published messages with a proposal to quickly double the payment in bitcoins. Now it became known that the attackers received more than 400 payments in bitcoins with a total value of about $ 121,000.
According to experts, the scammers have gained little benefit, especially when you consider that there have been no such large-scale and successful attacks on Twitter in the past. Also, it cannot be ruled out that some of the payments came from the scammers themselves so that their campaign would look more successful. The largest transaction was a $ 42,000 payment, which was tracked on a Japanese cryptocurrency exchange.
The attackers used three wallet addresses to transfer bitcoins and one for the Ripple cryptocurrency, which never received any transfer. After the cryptocurrency arrived in the main wallet, it was transferred to different addresses. It is assumed that in this way, hackers tried to confuse the traces in order to cash out bitcoins or exchange for some other cryptocurrency.
We will remind, yesterday accounts of large companies, politicians, and celebrities on the Twitter network were subjected to an unprecedented attack. Attackers managed to gain access to the accounts of Bill Gates, Elon Musk, Jeff Bezos, Michael Bloomberg, Barack Obama, Joe Biden, Apple, Uber, and others. The first message with the proposal to double the transfer in bitcoins was published from the account of Ilon Mask.
