Billionaire Elon Musk has criticized Microsoft co-founder Bill Gates for his knowledge of artificial intelligence (AI). He claims that Gates has a “limited understanding” of AI.

This is how Elon Musk responded to a tweet by Sandy Corey of Horizon Ventures, who praised Bill Gates’ leadership at Microsoft and his approach to AI: “I’ve been meeting with the OpenAI team since 2016. It’s great when someone like Gates is so optimistic about AI. It is also notable that Microsoft has been following this topic for a long time as well.”

“His understanding of AI was limited. And so it remained,” Elon Musk spoke about Bill Gates

Sandy Corey was quoting a long post by Bill Gates titled “The Age of AI Has Begun”, which he published on his blog. The billionaire wrote about how humanity was waiting for the next major revolution. He discussed the potential impact of AI on employment, healthcare and education.

As computing power gets cheaper, the GPT’s ability to express ideas will become more and more like having a white-collar worker to help you with various tasks. Microsoft describes it as having a co-pilot. AI will, for example, help write emails and manage the mailbox.

Responding to this, Twitter CEO Elon Musk said: “I remember the first meetings with Gates. His understanding of AI was limited. That is how it has remained.”

Elon Musk started working with OpenAI in 2015. He was one of the company’s first investors. He left the company in 2018 due to potential conflicts of interest related to Tesla’s own AI research.
