Huawei’s 2020 revenue grows despite US sanctions

Huawei’s chairman said Tuesday that the company posted modest revenue and profit growth in 2020 and achieved expectations despite tightening sanctions from the US government.

As a reminder, back in 2019, Huawei was added to the trade blacklist by then US President Donald Trump. In 2020, the sanctions were tightened, as a result of which Huawei was deprived of the opportunity not only to purchase chips from third-party manufacturers but also to produce its Kirin processors at the facilities of companies using American technologies, such as TSMC.

Huawei has repeatedly denied that it poses any security threat and has also denied rumors that it collects data for the Chinese government. This month, Huawei Founder and Chief Executive Officer Ren Zhengfei said he hoped the administration of new US President Joseph Biden would pursue a more open policy towards US companies wishing to do business with Huawei.

According to a Huawei spokesman, the company will publish its 2020 financial statements as early as March.
