Space Invaders celebrates its 45th anniversary this year
Google has introduced a mobile game in the cult series of fixed shooters Space Invaders. The launch took place jointly with the Japanese company Taito, which at one time created Space Invaders.
As Google announced in a blog post, Space Invaders: World Defense invites players around the world to “go outside and defend the Earth.” As the game progresses, augmented reality space invaders emerge from buildings and rooftops, hide behind buildings, and soar through the sky. Players must work together to save the planet.
Iconic Space Invaders in the real world: go outside and protect the Earth
Google notes that the game is powered by ARCore and uses the Geospatial API to bring Space Invaders to life. The gameplay can even adapt to the time of day or local weather conditions.
The mobile game Space Invaders: World Defense for Android and iOS is available for free download on Google Play and the App Store .
