In the footsteps of the PS4: a dead PlayStation 5 battery will lead to problems accessing games
Enthusiasts have discovered the same flaw in the architecture of the PlayStation 5 as the PS4. The new console also has a CMOS battery that may be depleted. Users will not be able to run games normally until they are swapped out and connected to the PlayStation Network. Also, other pitfalls are associated with this element of the system.
The CMOS battery is used in the PS4 and PS5 consoles to determine the internal system time. It is needed to correctly show when the player received a trophy in the project.
The mentioned battery is located on the motherboard. If she sits down, digital versions of games on PlayStation 5 stop working. With disk copies, everything is a little better: some of them start and function, but Mortal Kombat 11, for example, refused to install. Fighting game loading stopped after 97%. Also, on the PlayStation 4, due to a discharged CMOS battery, the CE error 34878-0 occurs, which can damage the data of already installed games. On PS5, this problem has not yet been found, but enthusiasts are still testing.
In general, you can replace the CMOS battery, but after that, you must definitely connect to the PlayStation Network to automatically adjust the internal time of the console. If the player does not have access to the Internet, he will not normally use the console. Moreover, PlayStation 4 owners are now worried about a possible shutdown of PSN servers. If the PS4 ever repeats the fate of the PS3 and PS Vita, then a dead CMOS battery will be a verdict for the console – it will be impossible to launch games on it.
