Not just for 10-core
Introduced yesterday, Intel’s line of Comet Lake processors is generally not much different from Coffee Lake. One of the main differences is the availability of 10-core models.
It looks like the new 10-core Intel chip for the top Comet Lake processors
And these processors are actually more unusual than they might seem. The fact is that, unlike AMD, which, when switching to Zen architecture from the very beginning, used multi-chip configurations, Intel has nothing similar in the desktop segment, and the company could not just create and create a 10-core CPU based on an eight-core one.
Therefore, the company had to create a new crystal, a detailed photograph of which you can see below.
The crystal has an area of about 198 mm 2. It is curious that it is used not only in 10-core Comet Lake models but also in eight-core ones. This means that, for example, the Core i7-10700K is likely to consume more power than the Core i9-9900K / KS, and the new product may be more expensive to manufacture.
