And the lack of ABF substrates

Earlier, information appeared on the Web that AMD might transfer part of the production of its products to Samsung since TSMC simply cannot cope with demand.

It makes no sense for AMD to “change” TSMC with Samsung. The reason for the shortage is not TSMC’s production capacity

However, new data suggests that TSMC has no problems with a lack of production capacity. Allegedly, the shortage of GPU, CPU, and other semiconductor products is the lack of ABF (Ajinomoto build-up film) substrates.

Moreover, after Apple switched to the 5nm process technology, AMD allegedly became the largest customer of the seven-nanometer products from TSMC. Therefore, AMD does not make any sense to refuse this manufacturer’s services in favor of Samsung. True, at the end of this year, AMD itself should release processors created according to 5 nm standards, and this is where questions arise.

By the way, earlier on the Web, there were rumors that the shortage of ABF substrates could lead to problems with the production of semiconductor products throughout 2021.
