It turned out that you can eliminate the fan noise in the PlayStation 5 by turning it upside down

PlayStation Worldwide Studios head Hermen Hulst recently posted a funny video about how his cat loved Bugsnax. The video attracted the attention of users, but by no means because of the pet. Many people have noticed that the boss is holding his PlayStation 5 horizontally and upside down. Judging from the history of one of the users, this helps to eliminate the rattling of the set-top box fan.

When people started joking that a senior executive was misusing the PS5, as indicated by the location of the drive, Hulst removed the video and then uploaded a cropped version of it. The console was no longer visible on it, but photographs had time to creep across the Web. But now it turned out: Hermann Hulst did not confuse anything – the PlayStation 5 was installed in this position on purpose.

This is confirmed by the publication of the user of the NeoGAF forum under the pseudonym mili2110. He revealed that two weeks after purchasing the PS5, he began to hear the fan rattle. The player opened the console and checked for a sticker on the blades that secures the wires inside the console to the body. For many people, it peeled off and created unnecessary noise. Disassembling the console, mili2110 did not find anything, after which he decided to install the PS5 in the same position as Hermann Hulst. And it worked – the fan stopped rattling. True, in the comments of the user they warned that in the future the noise could increase, and they advised to replace the console under warranty.

From this whole story, the following conclusion suggests itself: Hermann Hulst also faced the problem of the noisy cooling system of the PlayStation 5. And he was the first to understand (or Sony engineers suggested it to him) that installing in a horizontal inverted position would help eliminate noise. This story goes back to the days of the PS1 when the console was placed diagonally to improve disc reading.
