It’s all about the underlying open standard
AMD Smart Access Memory (SAM) technology, which provides full processor access to video card memory, was originally introduced for the latest AMD components: Radeon RX 6000 graphics cards, Ryzen 5000 processors motherboards based on 500 series chipsets.
Latest natively exclusive AMD SAM technology now available for Intel processors
Recently we learned that this technology would soon become available to owners of motherboards based on X470 and B450 chipsets. But that’s not all. The fact is that the technology itself is not proprietary. It is based on a PCIe specification called Resizable BAR Capability. And for this reason, it can be implemented with both Nvidia video cards and Intel processors, and the former has already announced that it will introduce support into its adapters.
Now it became known that Asus unexpectedly released BIOS updates for motherboards based on the Intel Z490 chipset, which add support for Resizable BAR Capability to these motherboards and, accordingly, Intel processors in the LGA1200 version.
While the updates are in beta status, there may be bugs in work, but the final versions will clearly appear soon. As we have already seen, SAM technology in the case of the AMD platform often adds only a few percent to the performance, but sometimes the gain reaches 15-17%.
