LG starts installing transparent OLED screens instead of windows in Chinese subway cars

South Korean tech giant LG Display has announced that it has begun replacing regular windows on Chinese subway cars in Beijing and Shenzhen with 55-inch transparent OLED displays.

Transparent OLED screens are designed to display information about the current location of the train, as well as other data that will be useful to people using the subway. The panels have 38 percent transparency and support Full HD output.

Unfortunately, the company did not specify how many trains of Beijing and Shenzhen metro were already equipped with these screens. However, LG Display explained that it is already working to start equipping trains in other metros around the world with similar solutions.

At the same time, the company added that it intends to double the production of OLED panels. In her opinion, the new generation of such displays will find application in many areas of the advertising business. For example, transparent screens can replace regular shop windows and serve as platforms for outdoor advertising.
