MediaTek expects to provide Honor with processors for 5G smartphones

It is possible that many Honor smartphones with support for fifth-generation (5G) mobile communications, which will be released next year, will carry MediaTek processors on board.

The Honor brand, created by the Chinese giant Huawei, was sold to a consortium of 40 companies last month. The reason is the American sanctions, because of which Huawei has lost the opportunity to effectively conduct the cellular phone business.

Meanwhile, Honor, whose smartphones are very popular in many regions, including Russia, plans to actively develop the lineup. This will require modern processors, in particular, chips with 5G support. According to DigiTimes, MediaTek expects to come to an agreement with Honor on deliveries of just such products.

Obviously, we are talking about existing and future solutions of the Dimensity series, which are endowed with an integrated 5G modem. Moreover, MediaTek will be able to supply chips both for relatively inexpensive devices and for models of the upper price segment.

It should be noted that the agreement with Honor on the supply of processors is also expected to be concluded by Qualcomm, one of the main competitors of MediaTek in the corresponding segment. Moreover, Qualcomm and Honor, according to rumours, are already close to signing an agreement.
