The first smartphone on the SoC MediaTek Helio G85 was Redmi Note 9
MediaTek today introduced the single-chip Helio G85 system, which the manufacturer calls “gaming.” It includes the graphics processor Arm Mali-G52, operating at a frequency of 1 GHz. In addition, MediaTek mentions “HyperEngine enhancements to provide powerful and smooth gaming on mobile devices.”
Although the Helio G85 is still not listed in the MediaTek SoC catalog, the data provided in the press release confirm complete resemblance to the Helio G80. Both SoC configurations include an eight-core processor with two Arm Cortex-A75 cores operating at a frequency of up to 2 GHz, and six Cortex-A55 cores operating at a frequency of up to 1.8 GHz. The graphics processor in the Helio G80 is also the Arm Mali-G52, but it runs at 950 MHz.
In the Helio G85 description, the blocks and capabilities that Helio G80 have are mentioned: an image processor, the use of AI for image processing, a lot of hardware accelerators, voice awake (VoW), inertial navigation to get more accurate location information, support for two SIM 4G cards etc.
The gaming-optimized MediaTek Helio G family of solutions also includes the G90 and G70 series.
