Microsoft admits recent updates to Windows 10 may cause app crashes

It looks like the Windows 10 operating system ran into the problem again after installing updates for January-February of this year. We are talking about packages KB4598299 and KB4598301 for Windows 10 (20H2), Windows 10 (2004), and Windows 10 (1909). In some cases, after installing these updates, various applications crash, and Blue Screens of Death (BSOD) appear.

These updates bring improvements to the .NET Framework 3.5 and 4.8. They are installed automatically when you download updates through Windows Update. However, in fact, it turned out that the installation of KB4598299 and KB4598301 in some cases leads to malfunctions of various applications of the software platform. This is evidenced by user posts posted on the Microsoft support forum and the Reddit platform. Messages say the issue affects Visual Studio, Windows Presentation Foundation, and other applications.

In a support forum, Microsoft confirmed the issue, adding that the company is “working on a fix” The developers are expected to release separate fixes for NET: framework, Visual Studio, and other products. Exactly when the fixes are ready for mass distribution is still unknown. After installing the previously mentioned updates, users who encounter issues are advised to uninstall them and refrain from reinstalling them until Microsoft releases a fix.
