Microsoft extended support for Windows 10 for six months (1803)

Microsoft has announced a six-month extension of official support for Windows 10, version 1803. This decision is due to the coronavirus pandemic since in the current conditions it is more difficult for corporate clients to make the transition from Windows 10 (1803) to a more current version of the software platform.

It is worth noting that in accordance with Microsoft policy, official support for Windows 10 (1803) was discontinued back in November last year, but this only applies to Home and Pro versions. For the Enterprise and Education versions, the developers provided an additional year of support, which means that the life cycle of Windows 10 (1803) of the previously mentioned versions should end in November of this year. Now, when it became known about the decision to extend support, users of Windows 10 (1803) versions of Enterprise and Education will be able to receive updates until May 11, 2021. It should be noted that the life cycle of Windows 10 (1809) will end at the same time.

It is noteworthy that this decision by Microsoft actually makes the support period for Windows 10 (1803) longer than Windows 10 (1903), which was released a year later. This is because starting with Windows 10 (1809), Enterprise and Education platform versions are supported for 30 months, whereas starting with Windows 10 (1903), the first update of each year receives support only for 18 months from the date exit. As such, for Windows 10 (1903), the lifecycle ends on December 8, 2020, unless Microsoft decides to extend it.

As a reminder, earlier this year, Microsoft extended the support period for Windows 10 (1709) Enterprise and Education versions until October 13, 2020. In addition, the lifecycle of Windows 10 (1809) Home and Pro versions was extended until November 10, 2020.
