Microsoft releases Intel microcode and compatibility updates for Windows 10

It became known that Microsoft began distributing updates for Windows 10 (2004) and earlier. We are talking about updating Intel microcode with patches against vulnerabilities in processors, as well as increasing the level of compatibility, which will make further updates of the software platform easier.

As far as the Intel microcode update is concerned, it is aimed at improving security. The package is downloaded and installed automatically through Windows Update when needed and when supported devices are found. As a reminder, Microsoft first released the Intel microcode update for the Windows 10 operating system in March 2018. The move was aimed at improving the safety of users working on computers with Intel processors.

If you have Windows 10 (2004) installed, you will receive the KB4558130 update, while Windows 10 (1909) and Windows 10 (1903) users will receive the KB4497165 package. It is worth noting that older versions of the platform will also receive this update, including Windows 10 versions 1809, 1803, 1709, 1703, 1607, and older.

It’s nice to see Microsoft release updates of this kind whenever a threat arises. Keep in mind, however, that in the past, microcode updates from Microsoft have caused stability issues on some older Intel processors, resulting in frequent reboots of the operating system.

As for the so-called “compatibility update” for Windows 10 (2004) and earlier, we are talking about the package KB4577588. It is distributed through Windows Update and is designed to simplify the process of updating the operating system to new versions.

Microsoft does not recommend that users install these updates forcibly, as this can lead to all sorts of problems.
