Microsoft Surface Duo Smartphone is almost impossible to repair

IFixit has dissected a foldable Microsoft Surface Duo smartphone that went on sale in the United States the other day. The experts’ conclusion is that the device has poor maintainability.

Recall that the device is equipped with two 5.6-inch AMOLED displays with a resolution of 1800 × 1350 pixels. Used Qualcomm Snapdragon 855 processor, working in tandem with 6 GB of RAM. The flash storage capacity is 128 or 256 GB.

The smartphone is powered by a two-module rechargeable battery with a total capacity of 3577 mAh. Provides an adaptive 11-megapixel camera with artificial intelligence.

Based on the autopsy results, iFixit employees rated the Microsoft Surface Duo maintainability at only two points out of ten (on its own scale). The only advantage of the design is called the ability to replace the displays and rear glass panels without disassembling the entire device.

At the same time, maintenance of the battery modules is extremely difficult due to the strong adhesive. For the installation of key components, non-standard fasteners are used, and the USB Type-C connector is soldered to the mainboard. Plus, any repair attempts are associated with the need to get rid of the ubiquitous glue.
