Microsoft Unveils Intelligent Speaker for Teams with Voice Recognition and Translator

Microsoft demonstrated a prototype meeting room device several years ago. The gadget was equipped with an automatic voice recognition system, as well as a built-in translator. According to the Verge resource, the company will embody this prototype in the form of new smart speakers with the simple name Intelligent Speaker.

According to the manufacturer, devices that look like small hockey pucks can work with the Microsoft Teams platform. The gadget will be able to define up to 10 different voices and create transcripts of virtual meetings with each participant’s definition in this meeting. The device will also help the participants of the virtual conference follow the speakers and translate their speech if necessary.

Microsoft has teamed up with Yealink and Epos to develop the device. For the first time, the concept of a device with similar functions was presented by Microsoft at the Build 2018 event. However, the demonstration of the gadget took place when the world was not swept by the long-term coronavirus pandemic, which forced many to switch to a remote mode of operation, so some functions were missing.

The company did not disclose either the cost of the future gadget or information about when the new product will be on sale. At the same time, it is reported that the manufacturer has registered its huge “tablet” Surface Hub as a device that can also work as a smart speaker.
