Mindfactory: AMD outperforms NVIDIA second-quarter graphics card sales

The German online store MindFactory allows you to weekly examine the statistics of sales of central processors and video cards. If the representativeness of the sample is far from objective with processors, then there are fewer such claims on video cards. This allows us to observe the trends inherent in the entire video card market using the example of a separate store.

Representatives of the 3DCenter.org website undertook to summarize the entire second quarter, taking as a basis the statistics of sales of video cards by the specified German online store. As in the previous quarter, we can talk about the high popularity of AMD Radeon RX 5700 XT video cards – in May, for example, even more of them were sold than the leading NVIDIA GeForce RTX 2070 SUPER video cards. By June, however, sales of the Radeon RX 5700 XT sagged noticeably, while competitor NVIDIA even gained in popularity.

Such dynamics are characteristic not only of the two models under consideration. The lack of new models does not encourage buyers to part with money. AMD plays in more affordable price categories, and therefore the decrease in demand has a more noticeable effect on its revenue – in June, for example, this indicator decreased by almost half compared to May or April. Statistics on NVIDIA products are more stable, but there is a noticeable decrease in demand as it approaches the middle of the year.

Video card sales statistics in monetary terms

The alignment of forces in this particular area of German retail is not particularly changing. In the first quarter, AMD accounted for 41.7% of MindFactory’s graphics card sales, while NVIDIA controlled the remaining 58.3%. Jon Peddie Research’s data on the global market for the first quarter suggests a different proportion: 30.8% versus 69.2% in favor of NVIDIA, but the bias is not as critical as in the case of central processors. In the second quarter, AMD even managed to strengthen its position by one-tenth of a percentage point. Now the proportion in the structure of video card sales by the MindFactory store looks like this: 41.8% for AMD and 58.2% for NVIDIA. In a sequential comparison, the average selling price of video cards in this store in the second quarter increased by 4.7%. for which we should thank the steady demand for more expensive models of NVIDIA graphics cards. In general, the market has come to a point where buyers are saving money for the purchase of new models of video cards that are expected in the fall.
