NVIDIA Answers A Lot Of Hot Questions From Gamers About Gaming Ampere
We learned a lot during the presentation of NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3000 accelerators. But in some respects, the presentation raised more questions than answers. Perhaps sensing this thirst for more information, several engineers and a social media manager at NVIDIA recently held a community questioning session on Reddit.
For example, when asked about the overall performance of new accelerators and whether older processors like the Intel Core i7-8700K will be a bottleneck for new accelerators, the company replied:
“The RTX 30 series are incredibly powerful graphics cards that can certainly limit slow processors, especially in low-res and render-quality modes, so when testing performance it’s best to use the fastest processor you can get and go for 1440p resolutions. or 4K and the heaviest settings to get the most out of the GPU. “
When asked if the performance gap between the GeForce RTX 3070 and RTX 3080 would be proportional to the $ 200 difference in price, the company said:
“You can roughly estimate the 3070 is faster than the 2080 Ti. At the same time, 3080 has about twice the power of 2080. If you are playing at 1440p, 3070 is good for you. If you want to go 4K with ray tracing, then go for the 3080. “
When asked whether the new graphics cards will perform worse on PCI Express 3.0 systems than on PCIe 4.0 systems, NVIDIA replied:
“There are many factors affecting system performance, and the level of this impact depends on the application or game. Typically it is less than a few percent when moving from PCIe 4.0 x 16 to PCIe 3.0 x 16. The choice of the processor has a more significant impact on performance. We look forward to new platforms that can fully exploit the performance potential of PCIe 4.0. ”
When asked how the company managed to achieve such a significant increase in performance of the 30th Ampere series compared to the 20th Turing, the answer was:
“Major breakthroughs in GPU architecture, process technology, memory, and other areas have resulted in excellent results. The GeForce RTX 3080 is powerful enough to run a range of 4K games at 144fps – like Doom Eternal, Forza Horizon 4, Wolfenstein Youngblood, and more. And in the case of Red Dead Redemption 2, Control, Borderlands 3 can count on 4K @ 60 fps with maximum settings. “
Finally, when discussing the fundamental price difference between the RTX 3080 and the RTX 3090, NVIDIA explained:
“GeForce RTX 3090 should be compared to Titan RTX. This is a very interesting card if you are interested in 8K resolutions, using large video memory arrays for creative applications, etc. The flagship is the RTX 3080 – it provides excellent 4K performance with ray tracing. “
In terms of power requirements, NVIDIA has recommended at least a 750-watt PSU for the GeForce RTX 3080 and RTX 3090.
Of course, NVIDIA has unveiled not only new graphics cards, but also a range of software and server applications that are designed to improve gaming, streaming, and even storage. When the topic of encoding and decoding was touched upon, NVIDIA noted:
