So Nvidia itself claims

The situation with the shortage of new generation Nvidia video cards (like Radeon cards) will clearly be remembered by gamers for a very long time. However, Nvidia claims this is its best next-gen launch.

In its investor report, the company cites Ampere as the best launch ever. For example, according to Nvidia data, Steam statistics indicate a twofold superiority of Ampere adapters over Turing cards, although this is quite believable, given the not the best demand for the latter at one time.

In addition, the Ampere generation was distinguished by an increase in the average selling price of a video card, despite the fact that prices have grown significantly since the release of Turing. As you can see in one of the diagrams, in the case of Ampere, the share of adapters costing $ 300 or more was about 50%. However, given twice or more overpriced prices, it is not very correct to provide such data from Nvidia.

Either way, most gamers who can’t afford to buy an Ampere graphics card are unlikely to agree with Nvidia for the best launch in history.
