Steam Public Beta Launched and Available in China
Steam digital distribution platform for PC games and next-generation Sony PlayStation 5 game console is finally launching in China. Valve’s service was used by Chinese players using a VPN, but the government could lose access to it without any warning. The PlayStation 5 game console was not officially available in the region before – it was brought from other countries.
PlayStation 5 and Steam officially launch in the world’s largest gaming market
According to Niko Partners analyst Daniel Ahmad, the public beta version of Steam has already been launched and is available in China. The Steam beta in China currently contains about 40 games, including DOTA 2, Human Fall Flat, and Counter-Strike: Global Offensive. The Chinese customer only offers games approved by the Chinese government and comply with strict rules such as gore and gambling.
Additionally, Sony China has confirmed that the company will launch the PlayStation 5 in mainland China in the second quarter of 2021. This announcement was made by Tatsuo Eguchi, President of SIE Shanghai, and Soeda Takehito, Vice Chairman.
Daniel Ahmad added that the mainland Chinese version of the PlayStation 5 console might be locked for use in that region only.
In any case, given the huge number of gamers in China, we can expect Steam and PlayStation 5 to improve significantly soon.
