Beckett Cypher, the son of American rock star Melissa Etheridge, died at age 21. A message on behalf of the artist appeared on her Twitter account on Thursday, May 14th.
Etheridge noted that before her death, her son struggled with opioid dependence, hinting that he had died from a drug overdose.
“Today I joined hundreds of thousands of families who have lost loved ones due to opioid addiction,” she wrote.

“It’s hard for us because of thoughts about what else we could do to save him, but in the end, we know that he no longer suffers,” the singer added.
58-year-old Melissa Etheridge is the winner of the Oscars and Grammys, an open lesbian married to director Julie Cipher.
The couple had two children – Bailey’s daughter Jean Cypher and son Beckett Cypher, both times gave birth to Julie Cypher, and David Crosby from The Byrds became the sperm donor.
The 58-year-old singer said her heart was broken. All her planned concerts are cancelled.
Melissa admitted in the early 1990s that she was a lesbian. From 1990 to 2000, she was actually married to director Julie Cypher. In this relationship, the couple had two children – daughter Bailey, who is 23 years old, and son Beckett. Both times Cipher gave birth – from a sperm donor, who became a mutual friend of Julie and Melissa – a member of the legendary rock band The Byrds David Crosby.
In 2002-2010, Melissa was actually married to actress Tammy Lynn Michaels. In this relationship, Etheridge had two more children – twins: son Miller and daughter Johnny Rose. Now they are 13 years old. The biological mother of the children is Michaels, who became pregnant with an anonymous sperm donor.
Since May 31, 2014, Melissa is officially married to actress Linda Woll.
