automatic transfer of reminders from Calendar and Google Assistant has begun
Google announced in a blog post that it has begun automatically migrating reminders from the Google Calendar and Google Assistant apps to the Google Tasks app.
In February, Google warned that a forced transfer would start in the second quarter. Now Google has set a clearer deadline: until the end of June 2023.
Saying goodbye to Google Reminders
Users of personal Google accounts (i.e. not corporate or school) have the opportunity to start transferring reminders on their own. If the user does not take advantage of this opportunity, Google will do so for them at some point during June. For users with Google Workspace work or school accounts, automatic migration will begin immediately.
Debuted in 2018, Google Tasks is now available through the sidebar in apps like Gmail, Docs, Calendar, and more. This means users don’t have to switch tabs to access their to-do list or create a new task. One of the clear advantages of Google Tasks over Google Reminders (Reminders) was the ability to bind a time zone to a task, just like a calendar event.
