To test replaceable battery technology

Honda has introduced the MEV-Van electric car. It’s a concept, but not in the usual sense. There is no futuristic design or future technology here. This is actually a prototype where Honda is testing out removable battery technology.

The MEV-Van is an electrified version of the production N-Van commercial van. Honda’s technology will be tested jointly with Yamato Transport, Japan’s largest door-to-door delivery company.

The main highlight of the car is the removable modules of the Honda Mobile Power Pack e. They are mounted under the cabin floor and are easily accessible thanks to the presence of special hatches. Accordingly, the car does not have a charging port at all. However, Honda doesn’t say anything about the range, which is likely to be quite modest.
