Software update coming to PS4 today: new avatars, changes in 2FA, Party and Messages

Sony Interactive Entertainment announced today that an update (version 8.00) will be released for the PlayStation 4 system software that will bring significant changes to Party, Messages, parental controls, and more, as well as new standard avatars.

With the release of the update, Party and Messaging feature on PlayStation 4 will use the same group of players for voice and messaging. The interface of these menus will also change. Additionally, Sony will add the ability to mute all microphones in the game via the quick menu.

Also in the parental control menu, the items “Communication with other players” and “Viewing materials created by other players” will be combined into one – “Communication and materials created by users. In it, you can configure the corresponding parameters. To use the social features in certain games, kids will need to send a request to their parents by email.

The 2-Step Verification feature will also be improved. Users will now be able to use third-party authenticator apps to log in to the PlayStation 4, the PlayStation mobile app, and the website.

New profile avatars in the standard collection will be available for PlayStation users – with images of BloodborneJourneyGhost of TsushimaThe Last of Us: RemasteredThe Last of Us Part IIUncharted 4: A Thief’s End, and other games.

In addition, Sony announced the removal of the event creation and private community features. You will also lose access to existing custom events and communities.
