Some games will only be available for purchase on Xbox following the closure of the PlayStation Store on PS3, PS Vita and PSP

Sony Interactive Entertainment recently announced that the PlayStation Store digital store would be closing on PlayStation 3, PlayStation Vita, and PlayStation Portable. The VGC has calculated how many games will be lost in this case.

More than 2,000 digital-only games will no longer be available for purchase after the PlayStation Store closes on PlayStation 3, PlayStation Vita, and PlayStation Portable this summer. Users will still be able to re-download their previous purchases, though.

Fortunately, the vast majority of games are also available on other platforms. However, according to VGC, the ability to buy about 120 projects will be lost forever. And some games will become Xbox exclusives – for example, Beyond Good & Evil HD, Lara Croft and the Guardian of Light, Resident Evil: Code Veronica X HD, and the Bionic Commando dilogy.

In total, around 2,200 digital games will disappear after the stores close:

  • about 630 digital-only games on PlayStation Vita;
  • about 730 digital-only games on PlayStation 3;
  • a small number of digital-only games on the PlayStation Portable;
  • 293 PlayStation Minis (small games from independent teams);
  • 336 PS2 Classics (ports of games from PlayStation 2);
  • about 260 PS1 Classics (ports of games from the first PlayStation).

The above figures are approximate: Sony has already closed the web versions of stores, making it difficult for VGC to find accurate data.

The PlayStation Store will be closed on PlayStation 3 and PlayStation Portable from July 2 and August 27 on PlayStation Vita.
