It’s all about hardware acceleration of the Tempest sound engine
Sony has not yet made a full announcement of its next-generation PlayStation 5 game console. Meanwhile, game developers are happy to share details on their account.
Sony PlayStation 5 will receive a “huge” performance boost from an unexpected source
This time, Marc-Andre Jutras, a developer at Cradle Games and CTO of the upcoming Hell point game, shared information. He talked about one feature already announced by Sony – the technology of three-dimensional audio 3D Tempest.
According to the developer, the Tempest engine has hardware acceleration. This will not only make it easier to implement the technology but will also give a “huge” increase in productivity since it will free up CPU power.
3D audio has been around for a long time, it can be easily run on existing consoles … but few games do this because it loads the CPU too much. So far, software solutions have been used for this. However, hardware acceleration has now appeared and this means that there is no reason not to use it. For us, this basically means that the PS5 can sound better with a single swipe. Unless of course, you have a supported audio system. It also means that we get a CPU stream freed from heavy sound computing. Even if the two consoles have exactly the same CPUs, the availability of hardware acceleration for a specific task can give huge CPU acceleration.
Sony PlayStation 5 retail sales should begin by the 2020 Christmas season.
