Sony to allow PS5 owners to record voice chat conversations to file complaints

Sony will allow PlayStation 5 owners to record voice chat conversations to file complaints. The developers reported this in the description of the latest software update. The company claims that the posts will be used for moderation purposes only. The developers themselves do not plan to listen and record user conversations.

This means that any user will be able to record verbal abuse from another player and send them for review by a moderator. This is supposed to help in the fight against unscrupulous users. The function will only become active after launching the PS5. It is not specified whether it will be possible to prohibit the transmission of recordings of one’s own voice.

How the data transfer rules will operate for Russian players is not yet clear. As a reminder, since July 2018, Russia has had the Yarovaya Law, which obliges Internet companies to store user traffic (calls, correspondence, and files) for six months. Because of it, in the summer of 2018, Riot Games disabled voice chat in League of Legends. Then the developers said that they could not fulfill the requirements of the authorities due to the need to create a serious infrastructure. For the same reason, the company turned off voice chat in the shooter Valiant.

In September, Sony has opened pre-orders for PS5. In Russia, the diskless version of the console can be bought for 37,999 rubles, and the standard one – for 46,999 rubles. The consoles will appear in retail on November 19.
