Growth in the current quarter will later be replaced by a decline

According to IDC’s forecast, tablet sales across EMEA, which includes Europe, the Middle East and Africa, will grow 17.1% this quarter over the same period in 2020. This is due to the purchase of tablets for educational use. Throughout the region, various government programs are being implemented to provide students with personal computers or to subsidize their purchase.

Tablet sales in EMEA will decline year after year

“At the beginning of 2021, the market will be shaped by significant supplies in the education sector, with large volumes expected to be sent to both developed and developing countries,” explains Nikolina Jurisic of IDC. “Additionally, tablet demand is expected to benefit from shortages of components such as integrated circuits and panels, primarily affecting entry-level notebooks as this category stands out as an alternative for price-sensitive consumers.”

Despite strong performance in the first quarter, the EMEA tablet market is forecast to decline 10.5% overall in 2021. This is due to the fact that the demand generated by the pandemic will be almost completely satisfied. In the period from 2021 to 2025, tablet sales in the region under consideration will decline by an average of 2.76% per year.
