The flagship Google Pixel 5 Pro will be built on the old chipset and will receive a sub-screen camera

Photos of the alleged Google Pixel 5 Pro have been posted on the Slashleaks Leak Repository. On them, you can see not only the device itself but some of the technical characteristics of the gadget.

In addition to the photograph of the smartphone itself, their source also published a screenshot of the AIDA64 program, which indicates that the device is built on the Qualcomm Kona platform. This is odd since Kona is the codename for the Snapdragon 865 and Snapdragon 865 Plus chipsets. If we were talking about the latest Snapdragon 888, then in the program data it would be designated by the code name Lahaina. Recall that the “regular” version of the Google Pixel 5, presented at the end of September this year, is based on the Qualcomm Snapdragon 765G mid-range processor.

There is nothing strange about the use of the Snapdragon 865 chipset in the flagship device of 2021 (and, apparently, the new product will not appear on the market until next year). But if we assume that this is indeed the future flagship of Google, then many would like the device to be built on the latest platform.

Another interesting feature of the device is its sub-screen camera. This solution can be found, for example, in the ZTE Axon 20 5G model, which became the first smartphone with such a sensor. The AIDA64 data also indicates that the smartphone is equipped with 8 GB of RAM and 256 GB of permanent memory. The source of the images indicated that the novelty is equipped with a display with a diagonal of 6.67 inches, has NFC support, and received a quad-module of the main camera.

As the resource Notebook Check points out, there were already rumors that Google was going to release a “real flagship smartphone” in the first quarter of 2021, but there was no further talk about this. In one of the appeals, Google itself promised to release “some interesting new products” next year. A Pixel 5 Pro smartphone with a sub-screen camera would definitely fit that definition.
