Although at first, it seemed like Lucid Air was out of reach
After the reckless Tesla Model S Plaid liftback drove a circle on the famous Laguna Seca circuit faster than the McLaren P1 supercar, Lucid Motors tried to wipe its nose with a competitor. Alas, they didn’t succeed. Moreover, if the Model S Plaid was, albeit on special tires, but quite a standard size, then Lucid carried out some “adaptation”.
The lightweight Lucid Air tried to bypass the Tesla Model S Plaid on the track. Did not work out
First, Lucid has fitted the Air with “wider rims and tires” and more powerful brakes. Also, the interior was partially disassembled, which, of course, had a positive effect on the weight of the car and improved dynamics. And now the result. The “modified” Lucid Air completed a lap on the Laguna Seca track in 1: 31.3 s, and Tesla’s record, we recall, was 1: 30.3 s.
Of course, none of these EVs have reached the stage of mass production yet, so as they are refined, performance should improve and lap times should drop. But it is already becoming clear how “evil” the Tesla Model S Plaid turned out to be. Although at the time of the announcement of Air, it seemed that it would be very difficult to prepare a decent response to Air Tesla.
