AMD did not make any statements about this, NVIDIA, for its part, blames Samsung, which cannot cope with the production of the required volume of high-quality silicon wafers for graphics processors for Ampere-based solutions. NVIDIA did not say anything about problems with the supply of memory for new video cards. At the same time, the VideoCardz resource points out that rumors of a shortage of GDDR6 memory chips circulated even before the GeForce RTX 3070 model was introduced, which uses them.

“According to our sources, it will take several weeks to resolve the issue related to the shortage of production of memory chips. Thus, the availability of video cards will not improve until February next year, even if for some reason the production of some models is suspended, for example, non-reference versions of the Radeon RX 6900 XT, ”the French resource points out.

Video card manufacturers often ship GPU and video memory chips in kits. On the one hand, this allows us to make sure that the declared specifications of the main components are in line, on the other hand, it gives the company’s partners the opportunity to purchase these components cheaper. Therefore, the latter is quite active in this. The problem is that the fewer GDDR6 memory chips are shipped, the fewer GPU kits are available.

It should be recalled that the GeForce RTX 3090 and RTX 3080 models use GDDR6X memory chips. There is no high deficit in this memory, according to Scotland. The latter, according to the French publication, is most likely caused by the production of models of the younger GeForce RTX 3070 and RTX 3060 Ti. Unfortunately, it also influenced the production of the Radeon RX 6000 models using GDDR6 memory.
