The slowdown worked: Twitter announced a constructive dialogue with Roskomnadzor
The slowdown on Twitter did affect: on the April 1 deadline, the social network held, according to Business Insider, constructive negotiations with Roskomnadzor to explain the changes in moderation. “It was a productive discussion about how we can work together to ensure that notifications of illegal material are dealt with quickly,” a Twitter spokeswoman said.
If earlier Twitter reacted with a statement of its deep concern about the increasing attempts to block and restrict public communication on the Internet, now the company considered it necessary to reassure that it adheres to a zero-tolerance policy regarding the sexual exploitation of children, the promotion of suicide and does not allow posting content for illegal actions.
For its part, Roskomnadzor gave Twitter time to remove all prohibited content and postponed blocking until May 15 – all this time, the mode of the artificial slowdown of the social network launched on March 10, will be in effect.
“After taking measures to slow down Twitter traffic, the social network removed about 1.9 thousand of the 3.1 thousand materials that have not been deleted since 2017, banned in Russia,” Roskomnadzor said in a statement. Moreover, out of 650 new links to prohibited content, about 580 have already been removed. Simultaneously, the average response time is 81 hours, whereas according to the law, it should not exceed 24 hours after receiving a notification.
